Lisowski Wins Big Diamond Speedway “Thaw Brawl” as 54th Season Opens

The 54th season of racing got underway Friday night at Big Diamond Speedway, as a packed grandstand and strong field of competitors welcomed the return of dirt track action during the annual “Thaw Brawl.”
Headlining the night was Minersville’s Mike Lisowski, who captured the 25-lap BQ Concrete 358 Modified feature, earning the $4,054 victory in front of a hometown crowd.

Lisowski started on the front row alongside Ryan Watt, who jumped out to the early lead and set a strong pace through the opening laps. The race remained caution-free for the first 13 circuits, with Lisowski applying steady pressure but unable to find a way past Watt.

That changed when a caution flew for Dom Buffalino with a flat tire in Turn 2. On the restart, Lisowski made his move—outmaneuvering Watt and taking control of the race. From there, he pulled away and maintained a comfortable lead to secure the win.

“Without a restart I wasn’t sure I could have gotten around him,” Lisowski said. “The track was so fast, and Ryan is always tough to pass. We made some changes after the heat race, and the car was really good tonight.”

Behind him, a tight battle for position unfolded. Jared Umbenhauer worked his way into second place, followed by defending champion Louden Reimert in third. Watt settled for fourth, while Alex Yankowski completed the top five.

In the USS Achey Inc. 602 Crate Sportsman feature, Colin Cox of Perkasie earned his second consecutive “Thaw Brawl” victory. After Christopher Buffalino led early, a late-race restart allowed Cox to surge into the lead and hold on for the $1,054 win. Ryan Graver finished second, followed by Brennan Chapman.

The Roadrunner feature delivered one of the night’s most exciting finishes, as defending champion Alex Schoffstall of Llewelyn secured his 38th career win in the division. Schoffstall led from lap two but faced constant pressure from Joe Bassininsky, who made a last-lap attempt that fell just short at the finish line.

In the Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman division, Branchdale’s Kevin Fitzpatrick captured his first career victory at the speedway. Fitzpatrick took the lead on lap two and never looked back, holding off Devin Whitmoyer for the milestone win.
