Schuylkill Community Action to Host Contractor Outreach Event in Pottsville

Schuylkill Community Action will host a Contractor Outreach and Recruiting Event on Tuesday, April 7th, aimed at connecting local contractors with housing rehabilitation opportunities across Schuylkill County.
The event will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at SCA’s primary service office, located at 225 North Centre Street in Pottsville.

Open to residential general contractors and specialty trades—including electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, and roofers—the event will highlight opportunities to partner with SCA on programs focused on improving housing conditions throughout the county.

Schuylkill County is home to one of the oldest housing stocks in Pennsylvania, making preservation efforts critical to preventing blight and extending the life of homes. SCA administers multiple housing rehabilitation initiatives designed to address failing systems, improve energy efficiency, and correct health and safety concerns for owner-occupied homes.

Among the programs currently offered are the Schuylkill County Whole-Home Repair Program, the Asthma Remediation Home Rehabilitation Pilot Program, the Senior and Disability Home Repair Program, and several municipal partnership initiatives serving communities including Pottsville, Minersville, Schuylkill Haven, and surrounding townships.

“There is a tremendous need for these types of programs in our community,” said Dave Young, Chief Executive Officer of Schuylkill Community Action. “Many of our programs are currently over-subscribed, and we want to ensure we have a strong network of qualified contractors ready to complete this work.”

Young added that with some programs operating under tight timelines, it is important to fully utilize available funding and avoid returning unused resources, while also pursuing additional funding opportunities to expand services.

Andrea Slotterback, Director of Housing and Community Development, emphasized the importance of local contractors in strengthening communities.

“Contractors play an essential role in driving community development and economic stability,” Slotterback said. “Local contractors are the backbone of community resilience and progress, helping to foster stronger, more connected, and sustainable communities.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about SCA’s programs, the bidding and procurement process, and how to become an approved contractor. Staff will also be available to answer questions and provide guidance.

For more information or to RSVP, individuals can contact Schuylkill Community Action at (570) 622-1995 and ask to speak with Andrea Slotterback or Lynn Rosa.
