Schuylkill County Conservancy to Host Heritage Bus Tour Highlighting County’s Role in American History

A unique opportunity to explore the region’s deep historical roots is coming this June as the Schuylkill County Conservancy teams up with Explore Schuylkill to host a guided bus tour highlighting the county’s contributions to the nation’s history.

Titled “Schuylkill County Helped to Build a Nation,” the tour is scheduled for Saturday, June 13, running from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The cost is $40 per person and includes lunch.

The tour will be led by local historian and conservancy board member “Porcupine Pat” McKinney, who said the event will showcase the county’s “colorful yet important heritage” and its role in shaping the United States.

Participants will visit several notable historical sites, including the graves of the nation’s first Civil War casualty and George Washington’s drummer boy, as well as the Liberty Tree located in Tamaqua. Additional stops are set to include the Charles Baber Cemetery, the historic Schuylkill Canal, a memorial arboretum, and a former strip mine site.

Transportation for the day will be provided by C & R Bus Company of Saint Clair, offering a comfortable motorcoach experience, with lunch served during the trip.
