OBITUARY: James Andrew Sloboda, 87, of Tamaqua

James Andrew Sloboda, 87, of Tamaqua, PA, died on Thursday, November 3, 2022, in Danville, PA. He was the husband of the late Martha (Perko) Sloboda who died in June 2002. 

Born in Tamaqua on January 22, 1935, Jim was the son of the late Andrew and Mary (Patrick) Sloboda. A 1952 graduate of Tamaqua High School, he was a graduate of Stevens Trade School. Jim had active-duty service in the United States Army from September of 1957 until December of 1959. He was a mechanical drafting teacher at the Monroe County Vocational-Technical School as well as William Allen High School in Allentown, PA. Jim was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Tamaqua, the Lansford Pinochle Club, and the Tamaqua Senior Citizens. He loved to play pinochle, bowl, do woodworking, and paint at which he excelled. 

Jim is survived by son, Andrew Sloboda and his life partner Jack McLain; sister, Mary Sloboda of Tamaqua; daughter-in-law, Jackie Sloboda; and his companion for the last 11 years, Joan Camerini of Tamaqua. 

Services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua with The Rev. Darryl Kensinger officiating. Interment in Ss. Cyril & Methodius Cemetery, Nesquehoning will take place at 3 PM on Thursday. Call 9-11 AM on Thursday at the funeral home.
