OBITUARY: Rev. Norman L. Handy, 93, formerly of Frackville

Rev. Norman L. Handy
, Frackville, 93, departed this world on October 31, 2022 to join his Lord, Jesus Christ, in his eternal home in Heaven with the anticipating that Jesus will say, "Well done thou good and faithful servant." Born in Tionesta, November 13, 1928, he was the son of the late John G. Handy and Viola Dreyer Handy.

He was a 1946 graduate of Tionesta High School. During the Second World War he enlisted in the U.S. Navy to serve his country on the USS Randolph, an aircraft carrier.

He was married to Eleanor G. Leh Handy, for 64 years, his loving and faithful wife and co­worker in church ministries.

He was a graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University, Marion, IN, majoring in religion. He also graduated from Penn State University with degrees in Education, Industrial Arts. He did graduate work at Crosher Theological Seminary and at Delaware University.

Mr. Handy pastured churches as an Elder for The Primitive Methodist Church, The United Methodist Church, and The Wesleyan Church, all of the Methodist faith. He served churches in Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, retiring from the Bethel P .M. Church, Shenandoah.

He built his first church at Newark with help from the men of the church. He directed in the purchase of two parsonages, remodeled churches and parsonages wherever he went along with other pastoral duties. He was truly a "Handyman". He said, "My boss was a Jewish Carpenter."

He taught Industrial Arts in public schools in Trenton, NJ and Newark, DE. He worked in engineering at Piper Aircraft, Lock Haven, and for Ridge Homes, Milesburg, and for Avis Homes, Avis. He remodeled their own home for retirement in Frackville from a "fixer upper".

He was preceded in death, by his wife Eleanor Leh Handy, three sisters, Ruth Handy Wilson, Doris Handy Cherry, and Elaine Handy Ballenger, and by his parents and grandparents

Surviving are his four children,

Cynthia R. Handy Lewis, Mechanicsburg, Steven P. Handy, Chalk Hill, John N. Handy, Orwigsburg and Grace A. Handy Trutt, Sheppton, a sister, Helen Roback, State College, and by eleven Grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Nieces, nephews and many friends

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life Funeral Service, Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 11 AM, in the Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, 1323 Centre St., Ashland. Officiating will be Rev. Joe Floris. Internment with Navy Honors will follow in the Brandonville Union Cemetery, Brandonville.
