In a press release from the Department of Education, it was announced that two Schuylkill County School Districts were awarded grants to fund school police and resource officers.

Mahanoy City Receives Grant to Demolish Brewery and Build Park

Officials announced Friday morning in Mahanoy City that the borough will receive $420,000 in grant money to demolish the former Kaier's Brewery and redevelop the area into a community park and playground.

Argall Will Chair Senate Policy Committee

HARRISBURG – As part of the Senate Republican Caucus’s reorganization on Wednesday afternoon, Senator David G. Argall (R-29) was appointed by Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati to serve as the Chairman of the Senate Majority Policy Committee.

Susquehanna Bank Sold to BB&T

Susquehanna Bank, based out of Lancaster, which has branches in Ashland, Saint Clair, and Pottsville within Schuylkill County, was sold to BB&T out of North Carolina for $2.5 billion.  Susquehanna shareholders will receive a portion of shares of BB&T stock and $4 cash for each of their shares.
