Off Duty New Jersey State Trooper/Marine Dies in Crash in Berks County on Sunday

An off duty New Jersey State Trooper/Marine died in a crash that occurred on Interstate 78 in Berks County on Sunday.


According to the Pennsylvania State Police the crash occurred around 6:30pm on Sunday, May 20, 2018 in the Eastbound lanes of Interstate 78 near Mile Marker 40.7 in Greenwich Township, Berks County.

Police say the crash occurred while Brian McNally, 30, of Bedminster, NJ was traveling in the left lane of eastbound I-78.  Traffic began to slow due to an active construction zone in Lehigh County. 

McNally was attempting to move from the left lane to right lane when he struck the rear end of a trailer to vehicle driven by Nuritdin Juraev, 33, of Windsor Mill, MD.

Both McNally's vehicle and the trailer became engulfed in flames.

McNally was pronounced dead at the scene by the Berks County Coroner.

Juraev was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.

On Monday morning, State Police announced that McNally was an off-duty New Jersey State Trooper and also a Marine.  McNally was travelling back home from a duty weekend in the reserves.
