Hegins Township Police Continue to Investigate Mistreated Cats

Late Saturday, the Hegins Township Police released the details of the investigation at a home in Hegins Township where over two dozen cats were found locked in a shed.

According to Hegins Township Police Chief Beau Yarmush, on Friday July 3, 2020 at approximately 2:20pm, Hegins Township Police were requested to assist Hillside SPCA with an investigation at a residence on South Fairlane Road in Valley View.  Hillside SPCA received a complaint two days prior regarding cats living in unsanitary conditions.  Police responded to the residence on South Fairlane Road in Valley View and met with SPCA personnel.

In the course of the investigation police learned that on the property of the residence located on South Fairlane Road there was a shed that contained numerous kittens and cats which were living in an extremely unsanitary condition.  Some of the cats had obvious medical conditions: some cats had eye infections, some cats were under-weight, and some cats were infested with fleas.  Two deceased kittens were also viewed inside of the shed.

SGT. Dillman of the Hegins Township Police obtained a search warrant for the shed from Magisterial District Judge Bayer.

A total of 10 kittens and 16 cats were rescued from the shed. Decomposed cat carcasses were removed from the shed as well.  One  kitten rescued from the shed succumbed to its injuries at the scene of the investigation.

Hegins Township Police continue to investigate the incident.
