Barnesville Man Arrested After Fleeing Crash on Route 54 in Ryan Township

A Barnesville man was taken into custody after fleeing the scene of a crash on Saturday.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, the crash occurred on Saturday, November 28th, 2020 around 3:15pm on Barnesville Drive/Route 54 in Ryan Township.

Police say the crash occurred as John Jeffries, 61, of Barnesville was traveling east on Route 54 and Joel Rivera, 30, of Summit Hill was traveling west.

Jeffries, in his Toyota Rav4 reportedly crossed over into the oncoming lane and Rivera slowed and pulled to the should to avoid being struck.

The drivers side mirrors of both vehicles struck, and Jeffries stopped for a moment, but then fled east on Route 54 and Rivera turned around and pursued.

Jeffries drove to his home on Hotel Lane approximately a mile from the crash where police responded and took him into custody for suspicion of DUI and Hit and Run to an attended vehicle.

No injuries were reported in the crash.
