Eugene N. Fritz, 88, lifelong resident of Rush Township, Tamaqua, PA passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 22, 2020 in Coaldale, PA. He was the husband of Joan L. (nee Wentz) Fritz to whom he was married 34 years. 

Born on April 3, 1932, Eugene was a son of the late Clarence and Meta (Neifert) Fritz. He was a member of the Army serving in Germany during the Korean War. A mechanic and truckdriver, he had been employed with Pepsi Cola out of Reading for many years. Eugene had a very strong work ethic and started working at an early age for Guys Flowers. He loved gardening, enjoying the growing of flowers. A member of Christ Lutheran Church, Rush Township, he attended ST. John Lutheran Church, Tamaqua with Joan. 

In addition to his wife Joan, Eugene is survived by a sister, Charlotte Lorah; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Georgine and Richard Wentz; and nephews, Robert, Richard, and David. 

He was predeceased by brother, Warren Fritz and sister, Geraldine Fritz. Eugene will be greatly missed by his family. 

Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Marie F. Hochgertel, 93, Pottsville, passed away Friday, November 20th, at home.

Born in Pottsville, PA on November 19, 1927, a daughter of the late Theresa (Homer) and Irvin Colclough.

She was a graduate of Pottsville Catholic High School in 1945 and a graduate of Ford School of Business in 1946.

Prior to the birth of her children she was employed as the bookkeeper for W. Guy Payne Florist.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church.

Marie had a special Devotion to the daily rosary. She loved music and enjoyed shopping with Jane and her grandchildren. She was especially happy with a big "W" by her very favorite team the Phillies.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years William J. Hochgertel on September 11, 2003, a brother W. Gerorge Colclough, Three sisters Catherine Colclough, Teresa Colclough and Margaret Campion, a daughter in law Sally Hochgertel.

Marie is survived by a daughter, Jane M. Hochgertel, of Pottsville with whom she resided; two sons Daniel W. Hochgertel, of Pottsville; Pastor Mark F Hochgertel., husband of Cathy, of Lake Wynonah.

She is also survived by 5 grandchildren Dr. William Hochgertel, Kathryn Miller wife of Bryan, Abigail wife of Ruddy Grubbs, Aaron Hochgertel husband of Georgia and Adam Hochgertel (her Sweetie Pie) and 1 great grandchild Declan Miller

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, November 25th at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Pottsville, PA with Monsignor Edward O'Connor officiating. There is no public viewing prior to Mass.

Family requests remembrances in the form of contributions to St. Patrck's Roman Catholic Church or 319 Mahantongo Street Pottsville, PA 17901.

Interment private at convenience of the Family Saint Patrick Cemetery Pottsville, PA.

Paul Donton, 77, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Friday, November 20th, at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville.

Born in Schuylkill Haven, on January 22, 1943, a son of the late Catherine (McCovak) and Levi Donton.

He was a member of Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Schuylkill Haven.

He was employed by the former Reider's Shoe Factory and was a caretaker at Union Cemetery.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings John, Levi, Frank and Richard Donton, Betty Henry and Eva Lengle; two brothers in law John Lengle and Kermit Henry.

Paul is survived by siblings Boyd Donton, Catherine Donton, Ann Jenkins (David) and Mary Donton; nieces and nephews.

Services and interment will be held privately.

Gary David Keilman
, 75, of Tamaqua, PA died on Saturday, November 21, 2020 in Allentown, PA. He was the husband of Helen Marie (nee Dillon) Keilman to whom he was married 50 years in June. 

Born in Pottsville, PA on December 16, 1944, Gary was the son of the late Robert A. Keilman and Jean (nee Kern) Keilman. A 1962 graduate of Tamaqua High School, he served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. Gary retired from the Tamaqua Area School District where he was a member of the custodial staff but worked for over 30 years at Remaly’s Manufacturing prior to being employed at the school. A 32 degree Mason, Gary was a member of the West Penn Rod & Gun Club and the New Ringgold Fire Company; a 50 year member of the Tamaqua American Legion; and former member of the Elks, Keystone Club, American Hose Fire Company, and the Tamaqua Moose. He loved Harley-Davidson motorcycles. 

In addition to his wife, Gary is survived by daughter, Barbara Keilman of Tresckow, PA and her companion Charles Knight and best friend, grandson Tyler Sherman of Slatington, PA. 

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorials in Gary’s name may be made to the Ruth Steinert Memorial SPCA, 18 Wertz Drive, Pine Grove, PA 17963.

James F. "Tiny" McGovern
, 80, of Lake Wynonah, passed away in his residence on Sunday afternoon with his family by his side.

Born in Pottsville, on August 16, 1940, he was a son of the late Terrance W. and Alma (Couligan) McGovern.

He was a graduate of Nativity BVM, class of 1958.

Jim was a member of St. Ambrose R.C. Church, Schuylkill Haven and attended St. Patrick R.C.C., Pottsville.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, where he was in the military police.

Jim was owner of McGovern & Co. Inc., Carpet Cleaning. He worked in the chief clerks office for the House of Representatives for 10 years and a correction officer at SCI Mahanoy Federal Prison for 10 years, retiring in 2005.

Jim’s favorite pastime was spending time with his many great friends and family. His infectious laugh filled any room and he felt he had lived a full and happy life.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by brothers: Lawrence, husband of June; and Terrance, husband of Agnes.

Jim is survived by his wife, Jacqueline V. (Matthews), to whom he was married 51 years; son, James P. McGovern and daughter-in-law, Kathy McBride, of Lake Wynonah; grandchildren: Patrick and Corbi McGovern and Laurel McDorman; sister, Mary Margaret McGovern, of Orwigsburg; brothers: Donald, widower of Ann, of Pottsville; and Thomas, of CA; and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, November 30th at at 11:00 a.m. at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home, Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, with Deacon Jack Quirk officiating. A visitation with the family will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service in the funeral home.

Interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery will be private.

Georgine J. Orendo, 72, of Lincoln Rd., Pine Grove, passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2020 at home.

Born on February 22, 1948 in Jonestown, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mayanna Heberling Orendo.

Georgine was a Housekeeper at the Lebanon VA for over 30 years.

She was a member of Elstonville Sportsman Club, Ten Pine in Pine Grove, Perseverance Fire Co. in Jonestown, social member of Pine Grove VFW.

Preceding her in death were two grandchildren; a sister, Patsy Beatrice Hornberger; two brothers, Paul Chief Orendo and Timmie Lee Orendo.

Surviving two daughters, Anita Therkildsen of Schuylkill Haven, Christie Adcock of Pottsville; a son, Robbie Adcock of Ravine; 9 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; two sisters, Joann Beamsderfer of Annville and Julie "Cookie" Elliot of Jonestown; her companion for over 20 years, Lester Kauffman of Pine Grove.

There will be a visitation on Thursday, December 3, 2020 from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., Pine Grove. Memorial Services will be held at the convenience of the family with Pastor Barry Spatz officiating.

Betty Jean Heckman
, 68, of Arnot’s Addition, New Castle Township, passed away on Sunday at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Schuylkill – East.

Born on September 30, 1952 in Pottsville, she was a daughter of the late Richard M. Scott, Sr. and the late Theresa R. Parsick Scott. She was a 1971 graduate of Saint Clair High School, and was co-owner of Just Right Cleaning Service, Pottsville.

She often tried her luck at Hollywood Casino; and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was a social member of the West End Hose Company, Pottsville.

Preceding her in death was her husband of 46 years, David B. Heckman, in 2017.

Betty is survived by two children, Stacey Murphy (spouse, Ray), Palo Alto, and Christopher Heckman (spouse, Shawna), of Saint Clair; four grandchildren, Ryan Murphy (companion, Makenzi Grady), Kayla Murphy (fiancé, Devon Neifert), Connor Heckman and Paige Heckman; two great grandchildren, Gage Murphy and Braelyn Neifert. He is also survived by two siblings, Richard M. Scott, Jr. (spouse, Beverly), East Mines, and Gerri Knowles (spouse, David), South Carolina; a niece; two nephews.

The family will accept visitors at Dutcavich Funeral Home, 200 Sunbury Street, Minersville on Sunday from 7:00 P.M. Services will be at 8:00 P.M.

Robert Scott Lindsay
, 83 years of age of New Ringgold, Pennsylvania died on Monday, November 23, 2020, at York Terrace Nursing Home in Pottsville, Pennsylvania.

Born Saturday, May 22, 1937 in Warminster, the son of the late Bernice (Smith) Lindsay.

Surviving are; his beloved wife of 61 years, Betty A. (DeVine) Lindsay; sons, Allen Lindsay of Telford, Randolph Scott Lindsay and his wife Bonnie, David T. Lindsay; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren.

Robert retired from Haines & Kibblehouse as a machinist.

Bernard (Bernie) Staudenmeier
, 64 of Ashland, Pa died on November 20t​h​ 2020 at Emmanuel Center for Nursing in Danville, PA. Born on February 20,1956 he was the son of the late Leonard and Mary (McLaughlin) Staudenmeier.

He grew up in Ashland with his three brothers and one sister. In his youth Bernie enjoyed playing with his brothers and cousins. He enjoyed biking and sleigh riding and was often seen around town accompanied by his dog Pepper. He attended St. Mauritius grade school in the lower grades and fondly remembered the Sisters of St. Francis who taught him. He graduated from Intermediate Unit 29 in Pottsville, PA.

Bernie took great pride in working and loved his job. He worked for the Borough of Ashland for many years until his declining health necessitated his early retirement in 2016. He fondly remembered his co-workers and friends from around town.

His favorite past times included; eating out (he rarely passed by a bakery without stopping in), vacationing with family, playing pinball machines at his dad’s newspaper store and at local clubs. Perhaps his greatest passion was being an avid train enthusiast. Every year he would travel with his brother Bob to Brunswick, Maryland for all railroad days.

Bernie was active in his community. He was a member of the American Hose Company, Ashland, Ashland Elks, Good Fellowship Club, and the Knights of Columbus where he earned his 4th Degree Night, among others. As a volunteer fireman he enjoyed spending time with the other members at fireman’s parades and spent many hours helping with fundraising . Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by brother Walter and sister in law Linda. 

He is survived by his sister Connie and her husband Frank Bobek,

Two brothers: Bob, and brother Mark and his wife Mary Anne. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

MSG Joseph J. Tinninis “Tino”, 67, of Mahanoy City, passed away on Wednesday, November 18th in Bethlehem, Pa.

Born in Shenandoah on July 31st, 1953 he was the son of the late Joseph C. Tinninis and his surviving mother, Lois F. (Truskowsky) Tinninis.

Tino was a 1971 graduate of Marian High School and then enlisted in the United States Navy for 4 ½ years and then transferred to the United States Army where he spent his more than 30 year career as an Automated Systems Supervisor at Fort Indiantown Gap Military Reserve in Annville, Pa.

He was a member of Friendship Fire Company, Englewood, Frackville, Pa where he dedicated much of his time and effort and along the way made many great friends. He was also a member of the Good Fellowship Club in Ashland, Pa. Tino liked to spend time on Smith Island, Maryland as a commercial crabber. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially with his circle of friends at “The Farm”.

He leaves behind his mother, Lois Tinninis, at home, 1 daughter, Christi Tinninis – Georgia, 2 sisters, Susan Tinninis – at home, and Lois Wallauer with husband Michael – Ashland, Pa. 1 brother, Charles “Chuck” Tinninis and his wife Marci – Greencastle, Pa. Also surviving are his companion of 13 years, Molly Dalton, and nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, November 27th from 8am to 10am at the Oravitz Home for Funerals Inc, 40 N. Jardin St, Shenandoah. Interment with full military honors will follow at 11:30am in Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pa.
