Mary Elizabeth Kalovcak, 87, of Pottsville, PA, passed away Wednesday, November 25th, at Schuylkill Center.

Mary was born in Pottsville, PA on September 10, 1933, a daughter of the late Mary (Gogno) Frankenstein and William Frankenstein.

She was a member of Saint Michael the Archangel Parish Minersville.

Mary graduated from the former Pottsville Catholic High School

She was wife of the late Michael Joseph Kalovcak.

Mary is survived by two daughters, Colleen, wife of Mark Fleagle, of Schuylkill Haven;

Paulette, wife of Mark Kochkodin, of NJ; two sons David, Companion Michelle Hueston, of Pottsville; Robert Kalovcak, of Pottsville; and by a brother, Francis Frankenstein, of Minersville.

She is also survived by 7 Grandchildren, 7 Great Grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by a son Michael, and a sister Yvonne Pryce.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Interment will be at the National Cemetery Fort Indiantown Gap Annville, PA.

Barbara Ann "Barbie" Davis, age 68, of Pottsville, PA passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 22nd, 2020 at her home.

Barbie is survived by her aunt Sandra Thomas and her husband Charles, Middleport; three sisters: Holley Frantz, Orwigsburg, Jacqueline Davis, New Philadelphia, and Paula Behney, Pottsville; her brother Frank Modica and his wife Kathleen, Pottsville; a niece Francesca Modica, Pottsville; two nephews: Dimitri Modica, Pottsville and Scott Behney, Pottsville; and many cousins.

A Graveside Service will be held at the German Protestant Cemetery in Mahanoy City at 11AM on Friday November 27th, with Pastor Joseph and Pastor Micky McDemus officitiating.

Paul Chekan, age 92, of Port Carbon, PA passed away Monday, November 23rd, 2020 at his home with his family by his side.

Born in Pottsville, PA on July 9, 1928, he was the son of the late Michael and Mary (Shargo) Chekan.

Paul served in the U.S. Army as a Pvt in the Korean War from 1951 till 1953. He worked as a finisher for the Quality Control Department at Pottsville Bleach and Dye Comany in Port Carbon and retired in 1999.

He was a member of the former St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church in Port Carbon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.

Paul is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Ann (Morasky) Chekan, Port Carbon; two daughters: Cynthia Fees, Port Carbon and Kathleen Chekan, Waco. TX; five grandchildren: Eric (Michelle) Fees, Keith (Jenn) Fees, and Brad (Mercedes) Fees, Melissa (Brian) Webster and Jeffrey (Brandi) Haslam; eleven great-grandchildren Andrew, Emily, Tinsley, Linden, Jacob, Kyle, Julie, Norah, Quinn, Klay, and Harrison; a sister Anna Premich, California; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held private.

William Joseph Everly, age 83, of Port Carbon, PA passed away Monday, November 23rd, 2020 at Schuylkill Center in Pottsville.

Born in Pottsville, PA on October 25, 1937, he was the son of the late William and Mary (Stafanic) Everly.

Bill was a graduate of Pottsville Catholic High School in Pottsville. He served in the US Navy from 1955 till 1958. Bill worked as a supervisor in charge of housekeeping at Good Samaritan Hospital in Pottsville for 20 years and then worked for the Pottsville Area School District in charge of outside maintenance until retiring.

Bill was a member of the St. Clare of Assisi Roman Catholic Church in Saint Clair and was a youth sports coach and a volunteer for Little and Teener League Baseball. He was also an avid fisherman.

Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years, Myrna (Kevy) Everly, Port Carbon; two sons: Michael Everly and his wife Christina, Pfafftown, NC and Craig Everly and his wife Lori, Pottsville; two brothers: Tom Everly, Phoenixville; and Fred Columbia, MD; a sister Mary Ann Detwiler, Wernersville; a grandson Alex Everly, Potttsville; two granddaughters: Cassandra and Ciara Everly, Pfafftown, NC; and nieces and nephews.

Bill's family would like to thank Schuylkill Center for taking great care of him for the three years he was living there.

Funeral Services will be announced and held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bill's memory to either St. Clare of Assisi Church Memorial Fund or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Michael (Jordan) Barry, 44, beloved son, brother, and father, passed away Tuesday November 24th at his home in Girardville.

Born on October 5, 1976, in Pottsville, was the son of the late Gerald G. Barry and Margaret Jordan Barry, Ashland.

He was preceded in death by his father Gerald Barry and his grandparents: Pete and Helen Barry and George and Rosemary Jordan.

He graduated from North Schuylkill High School and was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish. He loved writing and poetry, outdoor survival activities, watching the history and discovery channels and enjoyed playing video games.

In addition to his mother, Margaret, Michael is survived by his son Liam Barry, Minersville; his brother, Gerald Barry, Ashland; his step-father Ron J. Buscavage, Ashland; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was especially proud of his uncle, Cpt. Donald Parthemore, a nuclear physicist from Chino, CA, who was responsible for building a satellite for NASA and worked on the tracking team of the Apollo 11. Cpt. Donald Parthemore was married to the late Adrienne Jordan, sister of his mother Margaret.

He was a loving and caring son and will be missed by everyone who truly knew him.

The service will be private for family members only.

Michael P. Whitaker, 63, Morea, formerly of Yatesville passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Tuesday, November 24th.

Born in Shenandoah, he was a son of the late Joseph and Theresa Coleman Whitaker.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Michael Whitaker.

He is survived by his two sons: Luke and Chris Whitaker, Girardville; his former wife, Jean Burns, Girardville; two sisters: Patricia Whitaker Hughes and husband, Paul Skulsky, Long Island, N.Y., and Marie and husband, Frank Pedriani, Hazleton; a brother Patrick Whitaker, Morea; several nieces and nephews.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Mr. Francis C. Chesko, 96, of Mahanoy City, passed away November 24, 2020, at home surrounded by his beloved family. 

Born January 23, 1924, Francis was the son of the late Frank & Helen (Bielet) Chesko and a graduate of Mahanoy Township High School, Class 0f 1942. Francis served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He landed on Utah Beach in Normandy, France, one day after D-Day. He later served with the Army's 7th Armored Division and fought in five major battles, including the Battle of the Bulge (December 1944-January 1945). His military decorations included a Purple Heart medal for wounds received at La Haye-du-Puit, France, a European-African Middle Eastern Service medal with five bronze stars, and a Good Conduct Medal. After three years in the service and rising to the rank of sergeant, he was discharged in 1945. As a civilian, Francis worked as a shovel operator for several years, and with wife Rose owned Chesko's Fabrics, where he also worked as a sewing-machine mechanic from 1954 to 1989. 

Preceding Francis in death were his parents, his beloved wife of 65 years, Rose, and seven brothers and sisters: John, Joseph, Stanley, Charlie, Mary, Anna and Catherine. 

He is survived by his daughters Roseann Hayes and her husband Gregory of Red Hill, PA, Susan Kester and her husband Mark of Mahanoy City, a son Jim Chesko and his wife Linda of Robbinsville, NJ, a sister Helen Laureti of Langhorne, grandchildren Patrick, Christopher and Eric Hayes, Amy Marnell and her husband Jeff, and Jennifer and Brian Chesko, and great-grandchildren Allison Marnell and Kiley and Samantha Hayes as well as nieces and nephews. 

Services will be privately held with interment in the German Protestant Cemetery in Mahanoy Township. A celebration of Francis' life will be held in the future.
