Brush Fire Leads to Finding of Homemade Bomb in Tamaqua


Police in Tamaqua are investigating an incident after a fire call led to the finding of a homemade bomb.

According to Tamaqua Police, on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, around 9:50pm, the Tamaqua Borough Police Department and Tamaqua Fire Departments were dispatched to a brush fire at the top of the Dutch Hill section of town near the area of Clark Street and Biddle Street. 

Around 10:15pm, police were advised by fire chief from Station 4 South Ward Fire Company while clearing the brush fire he found what appeared to be a homemade bomb. Also on scene was the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) Fire Forester who advised that he already sent a dispatched for State Police Bomb Squad.

Around 11:00pm, a federal agent from the FBI Bomb Squad and Corporal with Allentown State Police Bomb Squad arrived on scene. The area was cleared and around midnight, a successful controlled detonation of the bomb was initiated, no one was injured.
