State Police Arrest 5 for Suspicion of DUI through Sobriety Checkpoints

State Police release results of a roving DUI checkpoint in Schuylkill County on Friday.

According to State Police Sgt. Thomas Hornung of the Schuylkill Haven Barracks, Troopers conducted multiple sobriety checkpoints on Friday, June 10th, 2023.

As a result of the checkpoints, a total of 28 vehicles were contacted, with 5 drivers being arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.

One person was arrested for possession of drugs while another was discovered to have an active bench warrant.

Additionally, 11 citations and 25 warnings were issued.

The Sobriety Checkpoint was part of an effort by the Schuylkill Haven Barracks to increase DUI Patrols over the months of June.

The goal of a sobriety checkpoint is to reduce the number of alcohol and drug related fatal crashes, and to reduce the number of DUI drivers on Pennsylvania highways.
