Mahanoy City Welcomes the Holiday Season with Christmas Tree Lighting

On Saturday evening, Mahanoy City welcomed Santa Claus for the annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony at the intersection of Centre and Catawissa Street.
The evening began with a choral program featuring performances by both Mahanoy City residents and local organizations.

At 6:00 pm, Santa made a grand entrance down Centre Street, riding in a horse-drawn carriage led by the Mahanoy Area Marching Band.

Upon reaching the gathering of over 100 attendees, Santa listened to a few songs then officially lit the borough's Christmas Tree.

Following the tree lighting, Santa posed for photographs before making his way to the Humane Fire Company.

The festivities extended up and down Centre Street, with food and vendors. Additionally, complimentary Leiby's Carriage rides, sponsored by the Mahanoy City borough.

This year's celebration also included a petting zoo/

The event was organized by the Mahanoy City Events Committee with the tree and lights being provided by the Mahanoy City Social Club.

The Mahanoy Area Chamber of Commerce took the opportunity to express gratitude to those who generously supported their "Miracle on Main Street" Christmas light project. Chamber President Jeff Bowers and Treasurer Dawn Frye happily announced reaching the halfway mark of their $11,000 fundraising goal since launching the initiative in October.
