Schuylkill County Man Attempts to Flee Police, Ingests Methamphetamine During Traffic Stop in Port Carbon

A man is facing charges after he fled police and ingested drugs during a traffic stop in Port Carbon.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven, on November 22nd, 2023, around 7:30am, Troopers initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Lang Street and Pike Street in Port Carbon on a vehicle driven by Marcus McCabe, 24, of Port Carbon.

McCabe was arrested for driving under the influence.

A passenger in the vehicle, Shawn Tobin, 37, of Middleport was found to be in possession of methamphetamine.  During the search, Tobin grabbed the drugs out of the Troopers hands, ingested it, and fled on foot.

A short foot pursuit took place and Tobin was eventually taken into custody.

Tobin was charged with evading arrest, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, and tampering with evidence.

Tobin was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge David Plachko and released on $10,000 unsecured bail.  A preliminary hearing was scheduled for November 28th, 2023, but continued to December 19th, 2023, where Tobin will answer for the above charges.
