Intoxicated Driver Crashes into House in Bethel Township


An intoxicated driver was taken into custody early Sunday after he rolled and crashed vehicle into a home in Berks County.
According to Bethel Township Police, on Sunday, March 17, 2024, just after 3:30am, Bethel Township Police along with fire department and EMS were dispatched to the area of Old Route 22 and State Route 419 for a motor vehicle accident. Multiple calls were received reporting a vehicle on its side that struck a house.

Bethel Township Police arrived on scene minutes later and observed two males outside of the vehicle, one of whom was beginning to walk away from the scene. He was quickly identified as being the driver of the vehicle. 

A Bethel Township officer stopped the male from leaving, resulting in the male attempting to resist being detained. The officer was able to get the male detained in handcuffs after a brief struggle. The male was extremely intoxicated. He confirmed multiple times that he had been driving the vehicle at the time of the crash and that he was not injured. The driver was identified as Mateo Pascual Simon, 25, of Reading.

Pascual Simon was arrested for Driving Under the Influence and resisting arrest and was transported to Berks County Central Processing. Once at Central Processing the male fought with Berks County Sheriffs Deputies while being processed. He refused a breath test.

Pascual Simon will be charged by Bethel Township Police with DUI and resisting arrest, in addition to traffic offenses.
