Mahanoy City Man Facing Charges for Having a Sexual Relationship with a Teenager

A Mahanoy City man is locked up in Schuylkill County Prison for having a sexual relationship with a teenager.

According to Mahanoy City Police, Nadir Muhammed, 30, of Mahanoy City was arrested and charged Monday evening with 3 counts of Statutory Sexual Assault, 3 counts of Indecent Assault Person Less than 16yrs of age, 3 counts of Indecent Exposure, and 1 count of Corruption of Minors stemming from an investigation.

According to court documents, the investigation began after Mahanoy City Police received a call that Muhammed was engaged in a sexual relationship with the caller's 15-year-old family member.

On Monday afternoon, Mahanoy City Police Chief Thomas Rentschler made contact with the teenager's parents and requested custody of two phones that contained recordings of the two engaged in sex.  The videos were recorded when siblings of the teenager confronted Muhammad earlier that day.  While recording, the siblings threatened to go to police.

Chief Rentschler interviewed the teenager at the Mahanoy City Police Station who said that Muhammed is a family friend for years.  She admitted that she has had sex with Muhammed 3 times since October 2023, and they had been kissing for several months prior to that.

Chief Rentschler interviewed Muhammed who also admitted to having sex with the teenager 3 times and fully understood that she was only 15-years-old.  He said he has known the family for about 11 years.

Muhammed was taken into custody by Mahanoy City Police and arraigned on the above charges by on-call Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer.

Muhammed was locked up in Schuylkill County Prison unable to post $50,000 straight cash bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 4th, 2024, before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker in Shenandoah.
