Teen Charged for Robbing Pottsville Smoke Shop

A teen has been charged for robbing a smoke shop in Pottsville.
According to Pottsville Police, on Tuesday, April 23rd, 2024, around 7:30pm City Police Units were dispatched to the Smoker's Club, 24 North Centre Street for a robbery involving two male suspects.

The investigation revealed that one of the males walked to the back of the store and went behind the counter and swiped numerous vapes into his backpack, and then ran back out from behind the counter towards the exit.

A female store employee told the male to stop and stood in front of the door in an attempt to deter the male from leaving, but instead he shoved her out of the way and ran out the door. The second male stayed near the front door for the duration of the incident and was not observed stealing anything.

On Wednesday morning around 7:30am, police observed a male matching the physical description of the male who committed the robbery, including his sneakers and backpack he was carrying.

The 17-year-old juvenile was taken into custody after a brief struggle. During a search, officers found what was believed to be several of the stolen vapes from the previous day.

As a result, the juvenile was charged with robbery, and related offenses, as well as resisting arrest. The juvenile was then placed into the custody of Schuylkill County Juvenile probation. Efforts are underway to identify the second male involved in this incident.

Due to the suspect being considered a juvenile, his identity was not made available.
