Pottsville Police responded to a motor vehicle accident early Monday morning after a car crashed into a carport, causing extensive property damage but no reported injuries.
The incident occurred around 6:38 a.m. in the 200 block of Mauch Chunk Street. According to police, Jill Klinger, 38, of New Philadelphia, was driving westbound when she lost control of her vehicle. Her car left the roadway, mounted the sidewalk, and struck a carport in the 300 block of Mauch Chunk Street.
The collision knocked down multiple support poles and struck a 1984 Chevrolet Impala that was legally parked and unoccupied inside the carport. The vehicle, owned by Nancy and Clarence Lechlietner of Pottsville, was pushed by the impact, causing additional structural damage to the carport as poles shifted from the force.
Klinger’s vehicle sustained moderate damage and was towed from the scene. No injuries were reported.
Police did not indicate if charges would be filed.
