A section of Raven Run Road in Union and West Mahanoy Townships will be closed around the clock for approximately four weeks starting Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
The roadway between Village Road and Cemetery Road will be closed as part of a milling and paving project conducted by PennDOT.
The roadwork, scheduled to conclude by Friday, June 6, 2025, involves a recycled asphalt paving (RAP) operation. During this period, traffic will be detoured via Routes 54 and 924.
RAP is an environmentally friendly method that reuses ground millings to create a recycled asphalt mixture. The process includes cold milling of the existing pavement to produce reclaimed asphalt, which is then processed, laid, and compacted back onto the roadway. This technique not only improves the road surface by correcting irregularities and removing existing damage such as cracks and potholes but also allows PennDOT to enhance roads with lower traffic volumes that might not otherwise be repaved.
