14th Annual Harlen “Hippo” Zimmerman Memorial Poker Run Rolls Through Schuylkill County to Benefit Make-A-Wish

Riders from across the region are hitting the road today for a good cause as the 14th Annual Harlen “Hippo” Zimmerman Memorial Poker Run gets underway in Minersville.

The event, organized by the New Minersville Fire Company and The New Minersville Fire House Bikers Softball Team, features a 100-mile bike cruise through the scenic countryside of Pennsylvania. All proceeds from the day’s activities will benefit Make-A-Wish Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia, an organization that grants life-changing wishes to children with critical illnesses.

Registration for the event took place this morning from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the New Minersville Fire Company on Line Street, with the last bikes heading out by 11:30 a.m. Riders paid $25, while passengers joined for $15. The Poker Run is open to all vehicles, not just motorcycles, welcoming anyone who wants to support the cause.

In addition to the ride, participants are enjoying food, prize giveaways, and multiple raffles — including the popular Blackstone Griddle & Meat Raffle — giving attendees many chances to walk away a winner while supporting the mission of Make-A-Wish.

This annual event is part of a long-standing tradition in Schuylkill County. Various teams from the Moms for Make-A-Wish® softball league, which has been dedicated to helping transform the lives of local children battling serious illnesses for the past 34 years, continue to raise funds through events like this one.

Organizers say the Poker Run not only provides a memorable experience for riders but also plays a critical role in making dreams come true for children in the community.

For those who missed today’s ride but want to contribute, donations can be made directly to Make-A-Wish Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
