An altercation in Pottsville Monday night left two men hospitalized with serious injuries and one of them facing felony charges.
On Monday, June 23, 2025, around 9:17 PM, city police were dispatched to the intersection of North George and East Norwegian Streets for reports of a fight in progress. While officers were en route, Schuylkill County 911 dispatchers informed them that one of the individuals involved had reportedly been stabbed.
When police and emergency medical personnel arrived, they found Jody James Schneider, 40, of Pottsville, suffering from a stab wound to the left side of his chest. Schneider received immediate medical attention at the scene.
Witnesses told officers that the other person involved in the altercation, identified as Kydiere Teel, 27, also of Pottsville, had fled the scene in a black sedan. Teel was later located at Lehigh Valley Hospital East emergency room, where he was being treated for severe head trauma, significant facial bruising, and multiple cuts and abrasions across his body.
An investigation, supported by video surveillance footage, revealed that the incident began when Schneider allegedly attacked Teel, striking him in the head with a piece of cement before repeatedly punching him in the face and head. The assault reportedly caused a brain bleed and other serious injuries to Teel.
During the attack, Teel drew a knife and stabbed Schneider once in the chest, effectively ending the fight.
Due to the severity of their injuries, both men were flown by medical helicopter to Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest for advanced treatment.
Following the investigation, Pottsville police charged Schneider with felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor simple assault, and harassment. Authorities stated that Teel will not face charges at this time.
