No Danger Found: Suspicious Device at Schuylkill County Courthouse Deemed Safe



The Schuylkill County Courthouse will resume normal operations on Wednesday, June 11, following the discovery of a suspicious device in the upper parking lot that led to an evacuation Tuesday morning, according to Schuylkill County Emergency Management.

The incident began around 11 a.m. when a suspicious device was found in the courthouse’s upper parking lot, prompting the immediate evacuation of courthouse employees and visitors. The Schuylkill County Sheriff’s Office, Pottsville City Police Department, Pottsville Fire Department, and Schuylkill County Emergency Management responded, coordinating with the Pennsylvania State Police Bomb Squad and K-9 team to secure the area.

The Pennsylvania State Police Bomb Squad stabilized the situation, while K-9 teams conducted a comprehensive sweep of the courthouse building and its perimeter to ensure no additional threats were present.

County officials said Tuesday afternoon confirming that the suspicious device was detonated in a controlled way and determined not to be a threat.  The item was not an explosive and was reported to be a large can.
