Deer Encounter Leads to Single-Vehicle Crash on I-81 South
On May 24, 2025, just after 12:30am, a single-vehicle crash occurred on the Interstate 81 Southbound Ramp at Mile Marker 123.7 in New Castle Township, Schuylkill County.
The incident, investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, involved a 2022 Nissan Altima.
The driver of the Altima was traveling on the I-81 southbound exit ramp for Saint Clair when they encountered a deer in the middle of the roadway.
To avoid colliding with the animal, the driver swerved left, resulting in the vehicle striking a grassy embankment on the roadside.
The Nissan Altima sustained minor damage to its front bumper and required assistance from a trail pulling unit to be removed from the embankment.
Despite the impact, the vehicle was drivable from the scene, and the driver reported no injuries.

Vehicle Veers Off Hazel Street, Driver Injured
This crash took place on June 23, 2025, at 06:47am, on Hazel Street near the intersection with Buck Mountain Road in Delano Township, Schuylkill County.
This crash involved a 2003 Chevrolet S10 and was investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville.
The driver, identified as Jacob E. Donelson, a 23-year-old male from Danville, PA, was traveling eastbound on Hazel Street when his vehicle veered off the right eastbound shoulder and off the roadway.
The Chevrolet S10 then struck an embankment, coming to a final rest facing east.
The vehicle sustained minor damage as a result of the crash.
Donelson sustained possible injuries and was transported by Ryan Township EMS Agency to Lehigh Valley Hospital Hazleton for further medical evaluation.
Ryan Township Fire Department, Delano Fire Department, and Ryan Township EMS assisted at the scene.
