In a statement, the committee said the effort is part of a broader push to reconnect with working-class voters in the region and highlight the party's historical support for labor, citing federal programs such as Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.
The SCDC has announced plans to hold a Labor Rally on Saturday, July 12th, at the Miner’s Memorial in Girard Park, located at 229 N. Main Street in Shenandoah. The event is scheduled to run from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and is open to the public.
Former U.S. Congressman Conor Lamb is set to serve as the keynote speaker. Lamb, who represented parts of western Pennsylvania in Congress, has been known for his focus on labor and economic issues. About a dozen local labor leaders are also expected to speak during the rally.
According to organizers, the event will focus on topics such as workplace protections under OSHA, livable wages, and the right of workers to organize.
