Burdell Smith, 89, of Mowry, passed away June 26, 2025. 

Born in the former Ashland Hospital, Fountain Springs, February 6, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Mary (Joyce) Fertig. She was a graduate of the former Ashland High School, class of 1953, and was an active member of the Christ Independent Church, Lavelle. Burdell was the cemetery manager, and along with her husband, Asher, were caretakers of the cemetery grounds at the Sunnyside Cemetery, Lavelle, for many years. Preceding her in death, was her husband, Milton (Asher) Smith Jr., passing in February 11, 2015, also, Brothers Leon and Gene Fertig, sister in law, Kay Fertig

Daughter: Karen wife of Allen Farley, Mowry

Son: David Smith and his wife Karen, Elysburg

Brother: Kenneth (Wade) Fertig and his wife Sally, Warminster

Brother: Allen Fertig and his wife Ann, Lavelle

Brother: Robert Fertig and his wife Linda, Pitman

Sister in Law: Marie Fertig, Ashland

Grandchildren: Lauren, Jaci, Steven Smith, and Cale Farley

Great Grandchildren, Emma, Oakley Smith

Relative and friends are invited to a Graveside Celebration of Burdell’s Life, Monday, June 30, 2025, at 11 AM, in the Sunnyside Cemetery, 259 Main Street, Lavelle. Officiating will be Rev. Harry Davis, Pastor of Christ Independent Church, Lavelle. Burdell’s family requests memorials be made to Christ Independent Church, 259 Main St. Ashland, PA 17921.Visit www.FritzFuneralHome.com to leave condolences. The Richard W. Charles M. Lehman, Jr.
, 67, of Auburn, passed away Thursday, June 26th, at his sister’s residence in Orwigsburg.

Born in Pottsville on December 10, 1957, he was the son of the late Marion E. (Rooke) and Charles M. Lehman, Sr.

Charles graduated from Milton Hershey High School.

He was employed as a supervisor at Dove Plastic in Hamburg.

Charles is survived by six siblings: Susan Harrington, Patricia Moyer, Bonnie Lehman, Ernest Lehman, Donna Stadig, Kerry Lehman; and a half-brother, Oscar D. Leymeister, Jr.

In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by siblings: Elsie, Paul, John, & Diane Lehman; a half-sister, Florence Leymeister-Moyer and a half-brother, Dwight Leymeister.

Services and interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

Charles Harry Budwash
, 74, of Morea, passed away at Lehigh Valley East in Pottsville under Hospice Care on June 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on June 27, 1950, he was the son of the late Charles and Betty (Morgan) Budwash of Mahanoy City.

Charles was a 1968 graduate of Mahanoy Area High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy following graduation, and proudly served his country until 1972. He then continued his service in the United States Navy Reserve for 11 more years.

Charles worked for the Department of Corrections at SCI Frackville as a Correctional Officer until his retirement in 2011.

Besides his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his sister, Karen Wagner, and his daughter-in-law, Sheila Budwash.

His surviving family includes his wife, Maureen (Sebastian) Budwash, his children – Joel with his wife Tuesday, and his daughter Jillian; his grandchildren – Joseph Budwash, Dean Budwash, Kieran Haughney, Andrew Ireland with his wife Lisa, and Jessica Trudich with her husband Cody; his great-grandchildren – Liam and Jaxon Ireland and Chloe Trudich; his brother – Gary Budwash with his wife Alice; his sisters – Joan Klatka with her husband John, Betty Jane Kufro with her husband Cy, Cheryl Souchak, Kathy Sheirich with her husband Les, Terri Marowski; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

A visitation for family and friends will take place on Thursday, July 3rd from 10AM to 12PM at the David D. Jarrett Funeral Home of Mahanoy City. Scripture service will be conducted at 11AM in the funeral home by Reverend Sam Bellavia. Burial will follow at Fort Indiantown Gap, Annville, with full military honors. The family would like to sincerely thank Compassus Hospice for their care and compassion given to Charles.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Charles’ memory can be made to the American Legion and will be accepted at the visitation
