Gordon Mountain Road Reopens After Flash Flooding Closure

Gordon Mountain Road has reopened to traffic after a brief closure Sunday afternoon due to flash flooding caused by heavy rainfall and runoff.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., emergency officials closed the stretch of Gordon Mountain Road in Butler Township from the base of the mountain to the intersection near the Walmart Distribution Center. Torrential rain overwhelmed drainage systems on both sides of the mountain, sending large volumes of water cascading onto the roadway.

Emergency crews quickly responded to the scene and blocked access at both ends of the affected area while waiting for PennDOT to arrive and assess the safety of the road. Officials determined that the runoff, which had covered the entire roadway in spots, needed time to recede before reopening the area to motorists.

Gordon Mountain Road was reopened to traffic around 4:00 p.m.

No injuries or vehicle incidents were reported during the temporary closure.
