Helping Harvest Fresh Food Bank took part in a statewide day of service on Friday, joining food banks and pantries across Pennsylvania in an initiative organized by Feeding Pennsylvania and America250PA.
The coordinated effort aimed to support thousands of Pennsylvanians facing food insecurity.
At the Fairlane Village Mall in Pottsville, Helping Harvest hosted one of its regular Mobile Market distributions, where volunteers helped unpack, organize, and distribute food directly to community members in need.
Several notable figures joined the day’s efforts, including Cassandra Coleman, Executive Director of America250PA; Terese Casey, Director of Development for America250PA and wife of former U.S. Senator Bob Casey Jr.; and State Representative Tim Twardzik (123rd District). Their presence underscored the importance of statewide collaboration in addressing hunger.
“This is what service looks like — neighbors helping neighbors,” said Coleman. “America250PA is proud to partner with Feeding Pennsylvania and organizations like Helping Harvest to make a real impact in our communities.”
Helping Harvest launched its Mobile Market program in 2015 to bring nutritious food directly to low-income residents of Berks and Schuylkill Counties. The program currently operates 23 Mobile Market sites year-round, offering fresh produce, dairy, meat, and other essential items. In 2024 alone, the Mobile Markets distributed food valued at nearly $4.5 million.
“Days like today highlight the power of partnerships,” said State Rep. Twardzik. “Hunger is an issue that touches every corner of the Commonwealth, and it’s encouraging to see so many come together to make a difference.”
Helping Harvest serves as the primary food provider for more than 350 community partners across its service area. In 2024, the food bank distributed over $20 million in food to neighbors in need. As a Partner Food Bank of Feeding America—the largest hunger-relief network in the U.S.—Helping Harvest continues to play a critical role in ensuring no Pennsylvanian goes hungry.
