Pennsylvania State Police Release Details on Tractor Trailer Crash That Closed "The Grade"

A New Jersey woman was injured earlier this month after the commercial vehicle she was driving overturned in a construction zone on Route 61 in Schuylkill County.

According to Pennsylvania State Police in Frackville, the crash occurred around 3:37 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2025, along "The Grade", Skyline Drive (Route 61) in New Castle Township on the "S" turn just before Darkwater Road.

Police say Arlenny Abreu of Perth Amboy, New Jersey, was operating a 2012 International Harvester 4000 Series southbound on Route 61 when she failed to safely navigate a right-hand curve through an active work zone. Investigators determined that Abreu was driving at a speed greater than what was safe for the road conditions.

As a result, the truck overturned and struck several concrete traffic barriers on the driver’s side before coming to a rest with its front end facing south. Emergency responders extricated Abreu from the vehicle.

She sustained injuries of unknown severity and was transported from the scene by Schuylkill EMS. She was later flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest for treatment.

Abreu was cited for driving at an unsafe speed, according to the report.
