The incident took place around 6:20 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-81, near mile marker 118.9.
According to troopers, a white Ford Focus, struck the rear of a 2004 Honda Civic that was traveling in the right lane. The impact caused the Honda to lose control and veer off the roadway into a wooded area.
Following the collision, the driver of the Ford Focus initially stopped at the scene but then fled southbound on I-81 without providing information or rendering aid, as required by law.
The driver of the other vehicle was transported by Frackville Community Ambulance to Lehigh Valley Hospital–East with suspected minor injuries. Police say she was wearing a lap and shoulder belt at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Ford Focus, believed to be a male, has not yet been identified.
