The Schuylkill County Fair shifts into weekend mode today, Friday, August 1, with Country Day, a celebration packed with family fun, agriculture-themed contests, and a tribute to classic country music icons.
The day is sponsored by the Schuylkill County Commissioners.
Though the fairgrounds officially open to the public at 4 p.m., early attendees can catch some pre-opening activities. At 3 p.m., the Animal Obstacle Course kicks off at the Ag Arena, followed by the Lucky Horseshoe Craft at the Horse Barn from 3 to 6 p.m.
Once the gates open, Goodtime Amusements will light up the midway at 4 p.m. with carnival rides and games. At 4:30 p.m., the daily Tractor Parade will roll through the fairgrounds from the Main Gate, showcasing vintage and modern farm machinery.
From 5 to 6:30 p.m., kids can don western gear and pose for keepsake cowboy and cowgirl mini-pictures at the Horse Barn. That area also hosts an Equine Demonstration starting at 5:30 p.m.
At 6 p.m., two educational and entertaining attractions will take place: the Red Creek Wildlife Center will present a live wildlife exhibit (WP area), and near the Main Gate, a Threshing Demonstration will show how grain was traditionally separated from stalks using antique farm equipment.
Later in the evening, the fair ramps up the fun. At 7 p.m., the Kids' Area hosts the always-lively Hay Bale Toss for both children and adults. Simultaneously, DJ Chicken Nugget will lead line dancing at the Ag Arena, sponsored by the Schuylkill County 4-H Program, offering fairgoers a chance to kick up their heels.
The night wraps up with two performances on the Main Stage at 7 and 9 p.m. by Alyssa and Wayne Brewer, delivering a Tribute to George Jones and Tammy Wynette. The show is sponsored by Schaeffer’s Harley-Davidson / Motor Sports.
