A Pottsville man is facing multiple charges after police responded to a domestic incident late Friday evening.
On August 22, 2025, at approximately 10:35 p.m., police were dispatched to the 700 block of West Norwegian Street for a report of a domestic in progress. A neighbor told officers she heard a man inside the home yelling, “I’m gonna choke you out,” followed by sounds of a struggle and a woman screaming.
When police arrived at the residence, they were met at the door by 34-year-old Leonard Rogers, who appeared out of breath and sweating. Rogers admitted he had been arguing with his wife. Inside the home, officers observed a woman who appeared visibly distressed.
During their assessment, police noted the woman had two black eyes, a golf ball size lump on her forehead, and significant bruising on her left arm and thigh. She was sweating heavily and trembling. Despite the injuries, she insisted she had hurt herself accidentally, saying she was “very clumsy” and that Rogers “couldn’t get into trouble because he needed to work.”
The interior of the residence was in disarray, with broken glass, overturned furniture, and a knocked-over lamp, all signs, according to police, of a physical struggle.
Due to the extent of the woman’s injuries, EMS transported her to Lehigh Valley Hospital for treatment.
Following the investigation, Rogers was charged with Simple Assault under the Domestic Violence Act and Harassment. He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Reiley, who set bail at 10% of $15,000. Rogers was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison.
He remains locked up waiting for a preliminary hearing scheduled for September 1st, 2025 before Judge Reiley.
