John J. Bubnis, 83, of Ashland, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at the Shenandoah Senior Living Community.
Born in Shenandoah on April 28, 1942, he was the son of the late John and Blanche Bubnis.
John was a graduate of the former J.W. Cooper High School in Shenandoah where he was a standout football player, which earned him an induction into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. After high school, John went on to play offensive lineman for NC State. During that time, he was called to serve his country during the Vietnam War for the United States Army. After his honorable service, he worked as a first-class lineman for PP&L until his retirement. Outside of work, John enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and would spend his mornings frequenting the former Donut Shop in Shenandoah. He loved his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren.
Besides his parents, John was preceded by his sister- Elaine Shalamanda.
His surviving family includes his wife- Joanne Bubnis, 2 sons- John J. Bubnis with his wife Pamela of Shenandoah Heights and James Bubnis with his wife Natasha of Frackville, his sister- Jean Dacquisto of Ringtown, 4 grandchildren- Jacqueline, James, Sophie, and Lucy, along with nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will take place on Friday, August 29th from 10am to 12pm at the Oravitz Home for Funerals Inc, 40 N. Jardin St, Shenandoah. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
