A Shenandoah man is facing multiple felony charges following his arrest in connection with a months-long cocaine trafficking investigation by the Hazleton Police Department’s Narcotics Unit.
On Thursday, August 28, 2025, at approximately 12:50 p.m., members of the Hazleton Police Department Special Response Team (SRT) executed a search warrant at a residence on Peace Street in Hazleton, where they took Sanyel Calzado-Berroa, of Shenandoah, into custody on a felony arrest warrant.
According to Hazleton Police, the arrest was the culmination of a three-month investigation conducted in conjunction with the Luzerne County Drug Task Force. Detectives carried out several surveillance operations and controlled cocaine purchases from Calzado-Berroa before securing the arrest and search warrants.
During the search of the residence, investigators seized several pounds of marijuana, cocaine, and packaging and processing materials believed to be used in drug distribution.
Calzado-Berroa was charged with five felony counts of delivery of a controlled substance (cocaine) and five felony counts of criminal use of a communication facility for allegedly using a cell phone in the commission of the crimes.
He was arraigned on August 28, 2025, by Magisterial District Judge Peter Webby Sr. Bail was set at $30,000 straight, which Calzado-Berroa was unable to post. He is currently lodged in the Luzerne County Correctional Facility. Police said additional felony charges are pending.
Hazleton Police extended thanks to the West Hazleton Police Department for their assistance during the operation.
