‘Hollywood Halloween’ Theme Inspires Creativity at North Schuylkill’s Window Painting Tradition

The spirit of Halloween and the silver screen came alive across the North Schuylkill School District on Tuesday as students in grades 7 through 12 participated in the 63rd Annual North Schuylkill Halloween Window Painting Contest.
The long-standing tradition, which dates back more than six decades, invites students to transform storefronts in Ashland, Frackville, Ringtown, and Butler Township into festive displays of spooky creativity. This year’s theme, “Hollywood Halloween”, challenged young artists to bring classic and modern cinematic frights to life on community business windows.

The process began weeks in advance, with students sketching their ideas on paper. The North Schuylkill Art Department then selected the top submissions. From there, students were assigned windows in participating communities where they translated their concepts into full-scale Halloween artwork.

Retired North Schuylkill art teachers return to serve as contest judges. They will travel through each community, evaluating the designs before selecting winners.

Awards were presented for Grand Prize, First Place, Second Place, Third Place, and Honorable Mention.
