Plachko, who has presided over Magisterial District Court 21-3-01 since 1992, issued a statement reflecting on his career and the decision to step away.
“This decision came about more quickly than anticipated, but I simply reached a point where I knew it was time—both personally and professionally—to step back, reset, and begin a new chapter in life,” Plachko said. “It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve as an MDJ. Since 1992 I’ve listened to stories that broke hearts, healed wounds, or made me question the limits of human imagination.”
In his remarks, Plachko noted both the weight and responsibility of the judicial robe he has worn for more than 30 years. “Over the last few years the robe has been both a shield and a burden—black, simple but much heavier than it looks,” he said.
Throughout his career, Plachko has overseen cases covering Blythe Township, East Norwegian Township, Mechanicsville, Middleport, Minersville, New Castle Township, New Philadelphia, Norwegian Township, Palo Alto, Port Carbon, St. Clair, and Schuylkill Township.
He expressed gratitude to his family, constituents, local law enforcement, attorneys, litigants, and his court staff for their unwavering support.
“To my family, my constituents, and my community—thank you for giving me the privilege to serve. Your patience, faith, and encouragement sustained me through the challenges and responsibilities of this position,” Plachko said. “When I first took the oath, I promised myself I’d give this job everything I had—and I did. Along the way, I learned, I stumbled, I grew. I gave it a fair try. Now it’s time to let new voices lead.”
Plachko leaves the position with what he describes as “no regrets and great appreciation,” confident the court will continue to serve the community well.
