Lehigh County Coroner David Buglio has released details regarding the death of a Kline Township man who was involved in an electric bicycle crash last week.
The coroner identified the victim as Joseph D. Planutis, 53, of Kline Township, who was pronounced dead at 1:50 p.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest.
According to Buglio, Planutis died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head sustained in the crash. The manner of death has been ruled an accident.
The incident occurred on Sunday, September 28, 2025, around 7:44 p.m., in the 10 block of 4th Street in Kline Township, Schuylkill County, when Planutis’ electric bicycle collided with a utility pole. He was transported to the hospital following the crash, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
In addition to the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office, the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville are continuing to investigate the crash.
