Ashland Man Found Sleeping in Doctor’s Office Garage Faces Burglary Charges

An Ashland man is facing multiple felony charges in connection with two separate incidents after being found sleeping inside a local medical office garage and later linked to a prior ATV theft.

According to Ashland Police Chief Ger Daley, 46-year-old Daniel T. Leary, of Ashland, was arrested on Sunday, November 9, after officers responded to a report of suspicious activity at the Cornerstone Health building, 2114 West Centre Street.

A cleaning staff member reported finding an extension cord and other items stacked near their garage in the rear of the property, prompting concern. When police arrived with a key holder, they discovered Leary inside the garage asleep on a couch, with a plastic toy gun by his side. Officers determined entry had been made through a small opening connecting two garages.

Leary was taken into custody without incident. While being held at the police station, officers reported that he became agitated about returning to jail and struck the back of his head on a concrete wall, briefly losing consciousness. Emergency medical services were called to evaluate him, and he was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital – East for treatment.

Following his release from the hospital, Leary was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli, who set bail at $50,000 straight cash. He faces the following charges from the November 9 incident:

  • Burglary – Not Adapted for Overnight Accommodation, No Person Present (Felony 2)
  • Criminal Trespass – Enter Structure (Felony 3)

Previous ATV Theft Case

Authorities also confirmed that Leary was wanted in connection with an earlier case from October 8, 2025, involving the theft of an ATV from a garage on Chestnut Street in Ashland.

According to police, the victim reported his Blue Moto 4 ATV stolen around 2:30 a.m. Surveillance footage from W.H. Auto, located across the street, allegedly showed Leary and another unidentified male entering the garage with flashlights and later pushing the ATV out through a small doorway.

Investigators say Leary was seen riding the ATV away down Chestnut and 10th Streets. When contacted later that day, Leary reportedly told officers that another individual, identified as “Joe Balsavage,” had asked him to help retrieve “his quad.” Leary later directed police to the location of the ATV on Spruce Street, where it was recovered and returned to the owner.

For that case, Leary faces:

  • Conspiracy – Theft by Unlawful Taking (F3)
  • Conspiracy – Receiving Stolen Property (F3)
  • Conspiracy – Criminal Trespass (F3)

He was arraigned Monday, November 10, 2025, by Judge Tarantelli via video conference, and bail was again set at $50,000 straight cash.
