The holiday season soared into full swing Friday as Mrs. T’s Pierogies hosted its 18th annual Skydiving Santa celebration at Shenandoah Valley’s Veterans Memorial Stadium, but with an unexpected twist.
This isn't the first time that the jolly old elf pulled an audible, but Santa Claus did not make his traditional parachuting entrance. Due to high winds and unsafe skydiving conditions, Santa called in a little extra help from the sky. With Christmas magic and the support of the LVHN MedEvac Helicopter crew, Santa flew into the stadium in grand style, touching down safely to the cheers of hundreds of excited children and families.
Even without the parachute jump, the Christmas spirit was stronger than ever.
Mrs. Claus arrived early to greet families and mingle with children, spreading cheer and posing for festive photos. Soon after, Dave Smith of Spinjammers kept the crowd engaged and energized, offering updates as everyone anxiously awaited Santa’s dramatic arrival.
At approximately noon, the thundering sound of helicopter blades signaled the moment everyone had been waiting for. The LVHN MedEvac helicopter circled overhead before gently landing on the field, where Santa emerged with a wave. The sight drew loud applause and excitement from onlookers who embraced the rare North Pole - MedEvac collaboration.
Following his arrival, Santa was welcomed with a parade through Shenandoah, led by the Shenandoah Police Department, Fire Department, and the Shenandoah Valley Marching Band. The procession made its way to Shenandoah Borough Hall, where Santa met with children, listened to their Christmas wishes, and posed for photos.
Despite the windy weather, the event remained a heartwarming kickoff to the holiday season, proving once again that not even Mother Nature can stop Christmas magic in Shenandoah.
