North Schuylkill remained perfect in Schuylkill League Division 1 play Thursday night, with a 53–44 road victory over Mahanoy Area in a battle of unbeaten league teams.
Both squads entered the contest 2-0 in the division, with North Schuylkill holding a 3-1 overall record and Mahanoy Area standing at 2-2. The Spartans set the tone early, opening up a 17–11 lead after the first quarter and extending the advantage to 31–20 by halftime.
North Schuylkill continued to control the pace after the break, pushing the lead to 47–33 at the end of the third quarter before closing out the win in the final eight minutes.
Jude Maziekas led the Spartans with 18 points, while Xavier McNally added 16. Caden Mengel and Julian Nelson each chipped in seven points, Cam Kacilowiz scored four, and Logan Damiter added one.
Mahanoy Area was paced by Connor Bowman, who finished with a game-high 23 points, including seven three-pointers. Cam Smith scored 10 points, Ryan Zilker added nine, and Nico DiCasmirro rounded out the scoring with two.
With the win, North Schuylkill improves to 4-1 overall and remains 3-0 in Schuylkill League Division 1 play, tied for first place with Pottsville Area. Mahanoy Area falls to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in league action, currently sitting third in the division.
North Schuylkill will look to stay atop the standings when it travels to Pottsville on Monday. Mahanoy Area returns to action the same night with a road game at Minersville.
