The crash occurred at approximately 12:50 p.m. on December 16, 2025, in the 700 block of Sunbury Road (State Route 901).
State police said a 2015 Jeep 4x4, driven by Michael Mitchell of Pottsville, was traveling westbound when Mitchell allegedly fell asleep while driving and crossed into the eastbound lane. The Jeep struck a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe, driven by Marvin Davis of Pottsville, head-on.
Following the initial impact, the Hyundai spun approximately 180 degrees. A third vehicle, a 2025 GMC Acadia, driven by Brittany Prutzman of Pottsville, was also traveling eastbound and attempted to avoid the crash by swerving into the westbound lane. However, police said the Hyundai was pushed into the passenger side doors of the Acadia.
The Acadia left the roadway before coming back across Sunbury Road and coming to rest on the eastbound shoulder facing east. The Hyundai came to rest in the westbound lane facing west, and the Jeep came to rest on the eastbound shoulder facing west.
Mitchell was wearing a seatbelt and refused EMS transport, despite sustaining suspected serious injuries, police said.
Marvin Davis and a passenger, Maryann Davis, both of Pottsville, were transported by Minersville EMS to Geisinger St. Luke’s Hospital with suspected minor injuries.
Prutzman reported a possible injury but declined transport. Two child passengers in her vehicle, both properly secured in child safety seats, were not injured, according to state police.
All three vehicles were removed from the scene by Steve’s Towing and Trail Towing.
