Schuylkill County Conservancy Announces December Sketchers Walk, New Year’s Day Nature Hike

The Schuylkill County Conservancy and local partners are inviting the public to take part in two upcoming outdoor events designed to connect residents with nature through creativity and exploration.

Schuylkill County Sketchers Nature Walk

The first event, a Schuylkill County Sketchers Nature Walk, will take place on Saturday, December 20, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Sweet Arrow Lake Park in Pine Grove.

Participants will meet in the upper parking lot near the park clubhouse, located at 108 Clubhouse Road. The walk will be led by Audrey Wells, a naturalist with the Schuylkill County Conservancy.

The relaxed, informal walk encourages participants to slow down, observe the natural world, and sketch what they see along the way. No art experience is required, and the event is open to all ages. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own drawing supplies, such as a sketchbook and pencils or pens.

The event is free to attend. Anyone with questions or looking for more information can contact skooksketchers@hotmail.com.

Start the New Year Off Right at Frog Hollow

The Conservancy will also host a New Year’s Day Nature Walk on Thursday, January 1, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at Frog Hollow Nature Center.

Participants will meet at the parking area off Stone Mountain Road, outside of Friedensburg, near Schuylkill Haven. The walk will be led by experienced conservancy staff members and will explore Schuylkill County’s second county park.

With a new bridge recently installed, attendees will have the opportunity to explore areas of the park previously inaccessible, including trails across the creek. The walk will focus on observing seasonal wildlife and winter landscapes.

The event is free and open to all ages. Attendees are advised to wear sturdy footwear, as trails are not manicured and may be wet. Participants should dress for the weather and may bring water and snacks if desired. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a leash. The trails are not accessible to strollers or wheelchairs.

In the event of inclement weather, the walk will be canceled.
