The Schuylkill County Historical Society has been awarded a $9,000 Cultural and Historical Support Grant from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC), according to Dave Argall and state Reps. Tim Twardzik, Jamie Barton, Joanne Stehr, and Dane Watro.
“We are very pleased the Schuylkill County Historical Society was approved for this funding,” the lawmakers said in a joint statement. “Preserving our past for future generations is critically important, and the Schuylkill County Historical Society does a wonderful job of doing that at its museum.”
Located in downtown Pottsville, the society serves as a vital educational resource for residents and visitors alike. Its museum features priceless artifacts and collections, interactive tours, seminars, genealogical resources, special exhibits, community events, and educational programs for young people.
The Cultural and Historical Support Grant program is designed to strengthen Pennsylvania’s museum community by supporting the general operations of eligible museums and county historical societies that do not receive funding through other state agency programs. Recently, PHMC approved $3.8 million in funding for 177 eligible museums and historical societies across 59 counties statewide.
Local officials said the grant will help ensure the continued preservation and presentation of Schuylkill County’s rich history for generations to come.
