According to Mahanoy City Police Chief Thomas J. Rentschler, Joseph Zendrosky, 47, of Shenandoah has been charged with one count of Receiving Stolen Property (F3) in connection with the incident.
Chief Rentschler stated that on Sunday, November 30, 2025, he was notified of a vehicle that had been entered as stolen by the Frackville Police Department and was spotted entering Mahanoy City on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at approximately 11:55pm. The vehicle, a 2017 Chevrolet sedan, was reported stolen during a burglary investigation being handled by Frackville Police.
Rentschler said he began patrolling the borough to look for the vehicle and soon located it parked at the corner of South 3rd and East Market Streets, directly across from the Mahanoy City Police station. He then reviewed surveillance footage from cameras on the station and observed the Chevrolet arrive at approximately 12:07am. A male was seen exiting the vehicle and walking to the rear apartment at 301 E. Pine Street (rear). The same male was later seen leaving and returning to the vehicle multiple times in the early morning hours with other unidentified individuals.
At approximately 6:22am, the male was seen on video leaving the apartment with two other people, entering the vehicle, and driving north on South 3rd Street, then returning around 6:46am and re-entering the apartment. After continued monitoring of the vehicle throughout the day, Chief Rentschler, along with Officer Marx of the Frackville Police Department, went to the apartment at about 6:15pm to make contact with the occupants.
Police say the tenant, known to Chief Rentschler, told officers that inside the apartment were “me, my wife, and Joe.” When asked for Joe’s last name, the tenant said he did not know. Officers then requested that “Joe” come downstairs. The man who exited the apartment reportedly matched the description of the male seen on surveillance video, and he was identified as Joseph Zendrosky. Zendrosky was taken into custody.
A search incident to arrest found the keys to the 2017 Chevrolet in Zendrosky’s pocket, along with other items, police said. Zendrosky was taken across the street to the Mahanoy City Police station for processing, where he was read his Miranda warnings and agreed to speak with police.
According to the affidavit, Zendrosky told officers that around 5:00–6:00pm the previous day he received the vehicle from a friend in Girardville, whom he refused to identify. Zendrosky allegedly admitted he was told the vehicle was stolen but said he did not care and took possession of it anyway. He told police he visited friends in the Girardville area before driving to Mahanoy City, where he was later observed on camera with the vehicle.
Zendrosky was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge James Reiley and committed to Schuylkill County Prison, unable to post 10% of $5,000 cash bail. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on December 11, 2025, before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker.
