Pottsville Man Charged After Forcible Entry, Assault in Cressona Home


A Pottsville man is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges following a reported residential burglary and assault in Cressona Borough last month, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
State police identified the accused as Shawnelle Alexand Young, 31, of Pottsville. Troopers from the Schuylkill Haven Barracks responded to a report of an active assault at approximately 3:41 p.m. on December 23, 2025, at a residence along Pottsville Street in Cressona Borough.

According to Troopers, investigators determined that Young forcibly entered a residence at while a person was present inside. Once inside the home, a verbal altercation occurred and escalated into a physical assault. Police allege that Young struck the 32-year-old female victim multiple times in the face.

As a result of the investigation, Young was charged with burglary of an overnight accommodation with a person present, simple assault, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, and harassment involving physical contact.

Young was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer, who set bail at $25,000 straight cash. Young was initially committed to Schuylkill County Prison but was released later that evening after posting bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 17, 2026.
