Shenandoah Teen Accused of DUI, Terroristic Threats After Snowbank Crash and Family Altercation

An 18-year-old Shenandoah man is facing multiple charges following an early morning incident involving a disabled vehicle, an alleged assault, and a DUI investigation.

According to an Affidavit of Probable Cause filed by Shenandoah Police, officers were dispatched at approximately 12:19 a.m. on February 16, 2026, to the area between the 800 block of East Centre Street and Yatesville Road for a report of a disabled vehicle.

Upon arrival, police observed a white Kia sedan stranded in a snowbank on the opposite side of the roadway from which it had been traveling. The vehicle had reportedly been traveling eastbound when it crossed into the westbound lane and entered the snowbank before becoming stuck.

Police identified the driver as Anthony Hernandez, 18, of Shenandoah. Hernandez was seated in the driver’s seat when officers arrived. According to the affidavit, Hernandez told officers he had driven into the snowbank and did not want to pay for a tow truck.

Family members arrived at the scene to assist in freeing the vehicle but were unsuccessful. Police say an argument broke out between Hernandez and his father about leaving the vehicle at the scene. The affidavit states that Hernandez’s father ultimately pulled him from the Kia and placed him into another vehicle in an attempt to transport him home.

While inside that vehicle, another argument allegedly occurred between Hernandez and his brother. Police allege Hernandez struck his brother in the face and threatened to kill him in his sleep. Officers reported detecting a strong odor of alcohol coming from Hernandez’s breath.

When police attempted to separate the family members, Hernandez allegedly exited the vehicle and pursued his brother. Officers state Hernandez refused commands to stop resisting while they attempted to take him into custody. He was ultimately taken to the ground and placed under arrest.

Hernandez was transported to the police station after the vehicle was towed. According to the affidavit, officers requested that he submit to a blood test. He complied and was transported to Lehigh Valley for testing.

Hernandez has been charged with:

  • Terroristic Threats with Intent to Terrorize Another (M1)
  • Resisting Arrest (M2)
  • DUI: General Impairment/Incapable of Driving Safely – 1st Offense
  • Purchase, Consumption, Possession or Transportation of Alcohol by a Minor
  • Driving at Safe Speed
  • Harassment – Subjecting Another to Physical Contact

He was arraigned before on-call Magisterial District Judge James Reiley in Pottsville. Bail was set at 10 percent of $7,500, and Hernandez was remanded to Schuylkill County Prison.

Court records show Hernandez posted bail on February 17, 2026, and was released.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 26, 2026.
