Minersville Police Announce Zero-Tolerance Enforcement at Recreation Complex Amid Rising Incidents

The Minersville Police Department is taking a zero-tolerance stance following a series of recent incidents involving disorderly behavior at the Minersville Recreation Complex, according to Police Chief Jeffrey Bowers.
Chief Bowers said large groups of juveniles have been gathering in the basketball court area, where they have reportedly used profane language, caused property damage, and engaged in confrontational behavior with adults.

“As a result of these ongoing issues, no warnings will be issued,” Bowers stated. “Enforcement action is already underway.”

Police reported that on a recent evening, a male juvenile was observed climbing on top of a basketball hoop, prompting further concern about safety and damage to facilities.

In response, the department has increased its presence at the complex, deploying both uniformed and plainclothes officers on a daily and nightly basis. Arrests have already begun, and individuals found in violation will be charged accordingly. Juveniles will be referred to the Schuylkill County Juvenile Justice system, while others may face proceedings in district court.

Authorities also warned that anyone arrested in connection with incidents at the complex will be permanently banned from all recreation complex properties, including the Minersville Community Pool.

Additionally, police announced a strict ban on bicycles and e-bikes throughout the entire recreation complex. Officials cited multiple safety concerns, including injuries and several near-collisions involving pedestrians. Those found riding bicycles or e-bikes on the property will face arrest, and the devices will be confiscated.

Police are urging the public to report any violations by contacting the Minersville Police Department at 570-544-2333, or by calling 911 in emergency situations. Residents who witness incidents are also encouraged to provide photos or video to assist with prosecution.

Chief Bowers noted that the entire recreation complex is under video surveillance, which will be used as evidence in ongoing and future cases.

The department emphasized that these measures are being implemented to restore safety and ensure the complex remains a welcoming space for the community.
