PennDOT Announces Road Work on Route 61 and Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County This Week

Motorists traveling through Schuylkill County should be prepared for several PennDOT maintenance projects scheduled this week that could cause daytime traffic delays in the Pottsville, St. Clair, Mahanoy Township, and Butler Township areas.

PennDOT announced multiple crack sealing and bridge repair projects beginning Monday, May 11th, with lane restrictions and closures planned during daytime hours.

Route 61 Crack Sealing in Pottsville and St. Clair

PennDOT maintenance crews will perform crack sealing work on Route 61 between Cressona Mall Road and Hancock Street in Pottsville and St. Clair Borough.

The project is scheduled to begin Monday, May 11th and continue through Friday, May 15th. Lane restrictions will be in place daily from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Motorists traveling through the area should expect possible delays and use caution while passing through the work zone.

Interstate 81 North Bridge Repair at Exit 131

Bridge repair work is also scheduled on Interstate 81 North at Exit 131 (PA 54) in Mahanoy Township.

PennDOT crews will complete the work from Monday, May 11th through Tuesday, May 12th. A northbound lane restriction will be in effect between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. each day.

Drivers are advised to remain alert for slowed or stopped traffic approaching the work area.

Interstate 81 South Bridge Repair at Exit 124

Additional bridge repair work is planned on Interstate 81 South at Exit 124 (PA 61) in Butler Township.

The project is scheduled for Wednesday, May 13th through Thursday, May 14th. A daytime lane closure will be in place from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

PennDOT said rain is not expected to impact any of the scheduled work.

Motorists are encouraged to slow down in work zones, avoid distractions, and allow extra travel time while maintenance operations are underway.
