Sen. Dave McCormick Requests Millions for Schuylkill County Projects in Federal Funding Proposal

U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick is seeking millions of dollars in federal funding for several projects across Schuylkill County and the surrounding region as part of his Fiscal Year 2027 Congressionally Directed Spending requests.
The requests, which were recently submitted to Congress, include funding for infrastructure improvements, fire and emergency services, healthcare workforce training, and senior support programs.

Among the largest requests is $7.176 million for the Schuylkill County Municipal Authority to support the Tremont Water Storage Tank #2 project. According to the request, the funding would be used to construct a new water storage tank, add a pumping station, and rehabilitate an existing storage tank.

Another major request would provide $1.925 million to American Hose Company No. 1 for a building addition to its historic 1878 firehouse in Tamaqua. The project would allow the fire company to safely house modern fire apparatus.

McCormick is also seeking $2 million for the previously announced Borough of Shenandoah Blight Removal Initiative. Borough officials said the funding would support the demolition and removal of approximately 200 blighted residential structures throughout the community.

Additional requests impacting Schuylkill County include $493,000 for Lehigh Carbon Community College to expand healthcare workforce training programs at its Tamaqua site. The proposal aims to increase healthcare training capacity and create additional workforce opportunities for rural residents.

Another regional request totaling $950,000 was submitted for the United Disabilities Services Foundation to develop a health records and client management system to support expansion of the CAPABLE fall prevention program for seniors. The program serves multiple counties, including Schuylkill County.

Congressional Directed Spending requests are proposals submitted by members of Congress seeking federal funding for specific community projects. The requests must still go through the federal appropriations process before any funding is approved.
