Military and First Responders Day Set for Friday at Schuylkill County Fair


The Schuylkill County Fair continues Friday, July 31, with a day dedicated to honoring veterans, active military members and first responders.
Veterans, active military personnel and first responders will be admitted free with identification. Friday’s events are sponsored by Hydro.  The day is also dedicated to fallen Schuylkill County Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Michael Pahira.

The schedule begins at 3 p.m. with an Animal Obstacle Course in the Ag Arena. A Lucky Horseshoe Craft will also be held from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Horse Barn.

The fairgrounds will officially open to the public at 4 p.m., along with the Goodtime Amusements midway and carnival rides.

A Tractor Parade is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at the Main Gate.

From 5 to 6:30 p.m., visitors will have an opportunity to meet the 4-H members and their horses at the Horse Barn. An equine demonstration will begin there at 5:30 p.m.

At 6 p.m., the Keystone Herpetological Institute will present a program along the indoor midway. A sawmill and threshing demonstration will also begin at 6 p.m. near the Main Gate.

Johnny Peers & The Muttville Comix will perform at 6 and 8 p.m. in the amphitheater.

The military and first responders recognition ceremony will begin with a Presentation of Colors at 6:45 p.m. on the JRL Emergency Services Stage. The recognition program will follow at 7 p.m.

Several additional events are scheduled for 7 p.m. DJ Chicken Nugget will host line dancing in the Ag Arena, and the Kids/Adult Hay Bale Toss will take place in the Kids Area.

Dave Bray USA will headline Friday’s entertainment with a performance from 7 to 9 p.m. on the JRL Emergency Services Stage.

General admission for those not covered by Friday’s free-admission offer is $5. Children age 10 and younger are admitted free, and parking is free.

The Schuylkill County Fairgrounds are located at 2270 Fair Road near Schuylkill Haven. The fair concludes Saturday, Aug. 1.
